Ethel M Cactus Garden Lights: What's Back for 2026
The setup is the one locals know. Ethel M strings more than one million lights through its three-acre botanical cactus garden next to the chocolate factory in Henderson, and families wander the paths after dark. The brand says more festive experiences and themed events will pop up in the garden through the season, though it didn’t list them yet.
I was in elementary school when these lights started, which makes me feel ancient. It also means three generations of my family have now done the same loop. My son is nine and still thinks a saguaro wearing lights is the funniest thing in the desert, and I’m not going to argue with him.
The big family plus is the location. You park, you walk into a garden, and you never have to steer the kids through a smoky casino to get there. After a week of hauling relatives around the resorts, that alone earns it a spot on my December list.
It works for toddlers through grandparents. There’s nothing scary, the lights do the entertaining, and the walking is a garden loop rather than a Strip death march.
There are some catches. This is a cactus garden, so hold small hands and keep curious fingers on the path side. Desert evenings in December get cold, so bring real jackets, not the hoodie your kid swears is warm enough. And the fact that Ethel M now sells front-of-the-line access tells you the regular lines can stretch.

Santa Express Pass: Paying to Skip the Line
Santa is available for photos throughout the season. New for 2026, you can buy a Santa Express Pass for front-of-the-line access to meet him. Ethel M hasn’t announced the price.
Whether it’s worth it depends on your kids, not your wallet. If you have a three-year-old who can hold it together for exactly eleven minutes, a skip-the-line pass is cheaper than a meltdown. If your kids are older and happy to look at lights while one parent holds a spot, save the money.
The Holiday Tasting Room Is the Grown-Ups' Ticket
From Nov. 5 through Jan. 1, the Flagship Store Tasting Room is running a limited-edition holiday chocolate tasting. You sample five seasonal chocolates, paired with fine wines for guests 21 and older.
Here’s the part parents should notice. Every tasting reservation includes complimentary garden admission with front-of-the-line access to the lights. Ethel M hasn’t said whether kids can join the chocolate side of the tasting, so ask when you book.
For a date night, or for the visiting aunts while Grandpa takes the kids to see Santa, it’s a smart bundle. Reservations are through EthelM.com while spots remain. In a town where holiday reservations vanish fast, I’d book early.

Ethel M Holiday Chocolates for Stocking Stuffers and Teacher Gifts
The 2026 Holiday Collection hit EthelM.com on Oct. 29 and lands in stores Nov. 2. Every piece is made without flavors or colors from artificial sources, which some parents will care about.
Prices before tax or shipping:
- 24-piece Advent Calendar, $80: Back as a limited edition, with full-sized gems including Milk Chocolate Bananas Foster Truffle, Dark Chocolate Kona Bean Espresso Truffle and Dark Chocolate Lemon Satin Crème.
- Baker’s Collection Satin Crèmes, $36: New this season. Twelve pieces in Dark Chocolate Vanilla Peppermint, Milk Chocolate Cookie Butter, Milk Chocolate Gingerbread and Milk Chocolate Peanut Butter.
- Holiday Favorites Sampler, $18: Five pieces: Pumpkin Spice, Pecan Pie, Fudge, Peppermint and Eggnog.
- Cactus or Holly Collectible Tins, from $45: Embossed tins in 16- and 32-piece sizes.
- Holiday Luxe Library, from $9.50: Four tablet bars, including Peppermint Bark Ganache Dark Chocolate and Brownie Batter Ganache Dark Chocolate. The bars are also sold individually.
- Gourmet Hot Chocolate, $30: Milk and dark chocolate shavings in a sapphire-blue tin. It’s kosher.
- Custom Chocolate Boxes and Tins, from $40: You pick the assortment.
- NEW Peanut Brittle Bars, $5: Peanut toffee dipped in dark, milk or blonde chocolate.
For a family of four, the math is friendlier than “luxury chocolate” suggests. Four Holiday Favorites Samplers come to $72, which covers a stocking for everyone. Four Peanut Brittle Bars run $20, cheaper than one round of resort lemonades.
The $18 sampler is also my pick for teacher gifts. I’d rather hand over a small box that gets eaten than another mug.
The Advent Calendar is a beautiful gift, but at $80 with espresso truffles and lemon crème in the lineup, I see it as the parents’ calendar. Let the kids have the sampler and keep the countdown for yourself.
One allergy flag: peanut shows up in the brittle bars and the Baker’s Collection. Read labels before mixing boxes for a classroom.
How I'd Plan a Cactus Garden Lights Evening
Feed everyone dinner first. The announcement doesn’t mention food at the garden, and nothing ruins a light show faster than a hungry kid staring at a chocolate counter.
Aim for a weeknight early in the run, well before Christmas week, when every visiting family in Southern Nevada has the same idea. Budget about an hour for the garden loop and Santa if your kids are small. Add time if the adults have a tasting reservation.
Bring jackets and a phone with room for photos. On the way out, let each kid pick one $5 Peanut Brittle Bar. Everyone goes home happy, and the sugar crash happens in the car seat instead of the hotel lobby. For my out-of-town crew, the evening ends with the hot chocolate tin, purchased for “the host.” That host is me.
