The Rascals and Maxi Priest Play Veil Pavilion at Silverton

Veil Pavilion Concerts at Silverton Casino This Fall

Silverton sits on Blue Diamond Road, well away from the Strip traffic most of us avoid on weekends. These two bookings fit what the property does well: artists your friends from work will recognize, at prices that don’t need a payment plan.

Neither act is a stadium show. For a lot of families around the valley, these are the songs that played in the kitchen while someone was cooking for a crowd. That makes them good picks for a night out with your sister, your compadres or the parents who first played you these records.

The Rascals and "Good Lovin'" on Oct. 24

The Rascals are celebrating their 60th anniversary. Silverton announced that the ’60s rock and soul group will bring classics like “Good Lovin’” and “Groovin’” to the Veil Pavilion stage on Saturday, Oct. 24, at 8 p.m.

“Groovin’” is a Sunday-afternoon song if there ever was one. Hearing it live on a cool October evening sounds like the right way to close out the month. This is the one I’d buy for the baby boomers in your life. If your dad still argues about which decade had the best radio, take him and let the band settle it.

Tickets start at $55 through Silverton’s event page for The Rascals.

Maxi Priest Brings "Close to You" to Silverton on Nov. 14

Three weeks later, the Grammy-nominated reggae artist Maxi Priest takes the same stage on Saturday, Nov. 14, at 8 p.m. He’s best known for his No. 1 hit “Close to You,” and his sound blends reggae, soul and R&B.

That song takes me straight back to family parties when I was a girl. My tías would pull everyone off the chairs the second it came on, and nobody was allowed to sit it out. I suspect plenty of people in the Veil Pavilion crowd will have a version of that same memory.

This show will appeal to a slightly younger crowd than The Rascals: people who were teenagers or newlyweds in the ’90s and haven’t stopped loving that easy, warm groove. Tickets start at $50 on Silverton’s Maxi Priest event page.

Silverton Concert Tickets: What Locals Should Know

Silverton listed starting prices for both shows but didn’t announce a Nevada resident discount, age policy or parking details. Check the event pages or the main Silverton Casino site before you buy, especially if you’re bringing anyone under 21 or need accessible seating.

Both concerts start at 8 p.m. on a Saturday. That leaves time for an early dinner nearby and still gets the babysitter home at a decent hour.

If you can only make one, pick the soundtrack you grew up with. Rock and soul fans should go with The Rascals in October. Anyone who still knows every word of “Close to You” should save the November date.
