Why is Bob Taylor’s Ranch House in Centennial Hills the oldest and still operating restaurant in Las Vegas?

There’s the food of course—the standout mesquite-grilled steaks and honey barbecue chicken in particular. There’s also the Western-themed ambience at this sprawling converted house built in 1954, right down to the knotty wood paneling and framed posters of old films starring folks like John Wayne.

This is where diners go to feel valued, respected, and loved. No wonder this true treasure—tucked away on nicely manicured grounds in a residential neighborhood that’s adjacent to the 215–deservedly won the James Beard “America’s Classics” Award earlier this year and was packed on a recent Sunday.

You’ll feel the love soon as you sit down, thanks to the complimentary garlic cheese bread served ahead of the entrees which come with soup or salad and your choice of baked potato, steak fries, rice pilaf, or mixed vegetables. I opted for the stratospheric creamy potato soup with cheese and bacon—this is a place where throwing caution to the wind feels so damn good—which set me up nicely for the ultra-juicy and tender 16 oz ribeye.
